Andy Weir was born and raised in California. His parents divorced when he was only eight years old. His Mom was a Electrical-Engineer, and his Dad was an Accelerator Physicist. Weir grew up reading classic science fiction novels. At 15 years of age Weir was hired on as a computer programmer for Sandia National Laboratories. Weir studied at UC San Diego, yet hedidn't graduate. Weir has worked for several software companies including AOL, Palm, MobileIron, and Blizzard, where he worked on Warcraft 2. The Martian is his first novel.
